CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Today, the Port of Corpus Christi was awarded the U.S. Department of Transportation’s FY 2012 TIGER IV Discretionary Grant for the expansion of the Nueces River Rail Yard. On March 5, 2012, Congressman Farenthold sent a letter to Mr. John LaRue, Executive Director of the Port of Corpus Christi, to express his support for this crucial infrastructure project. The Nueces River Rail Yard will expand the rail infrastructure and transportation network in and out of the Port of Corpus Christi. Additionally, this expansion will allow the Port to have an efficient rail system to meet existing capacity demands and expand into new growth markets. Ports are critical links to our nation’s trading partners and their infrastructure investment needs should be a primary focus within our nation’s transportation plan. “Expansion of the rail yard at the Port of Corpus Christi brings jobs and economic growth to South Texas. Our Port, serviced by multiple rail lines and good highway infrastructure, is poised to capitalize on increased trade from the Eagle Ford Shale and expansion of the Panama Canal,” said Congressman Farenthold. # # # |
